                 YES-Track & Field

                                                    General Information

YES-Track & Field is a program designed to help increase the number of young children who enjoy Track & Field, with the

goal of increasing the number of students who participate in Track & Field (and Cross Country) in school - including Junior High

and High School.  YES-Athletics (in Oklahoma) has standardized competition rules with National High School Federation rules.

There are rule exceptions in which case YES-Athletics rules supersede NHSF rules.  Uniforms and jewelry are an example of two

exceptions.  There are no rules in YES-Athletics that address uniforms or jewelry - except that shoes are required for competition.

In addition, "Finals Competition Rules" include the "Available Events per Grade" and "Finals Meet - Event Limits" for each Grade.

Be sure to review the implement weights, and hurdle specifications (height, interval, distance) listed on the "Events by Grade"

There are two types of YES-TF meets in Oklahoma "Open" meets and the "Finals" meet.  At the "Open" meets, members may

compete in as many events as they choose, and in events that are not listed on the "Events by Grade" for their particular grade - if

the host offers the event.  However, in the "Finals" meet, the "Available Events by Grade" will be enforced for all events and grades.

All YES-TF meets ("Open" & "Finals") are concluded with the YES-TF "Relay Tradition":  Relays are always run Just for FUN.

Therefore, relays do not count towards an athlete's maximum number of events in either "Open" or "Finals" meet competition.

Each child that participates in YES-TF must be a member of a YES-Athletics club and listed on the club's official on-line roster.

Please be aware, there are no "unattached" participants.  - - -  All participants must compete through a current YES-Athletics Club.

There are no "on-site", "walk-up" or "day of" entries.  All entries must be completed on-line through a club's YES-Roster account.

Each club should provide parents (and others) with their club's ID Number and Access Code to view results, order awards, etc.

Parents can go to www.yesconnect.org or pay for YES-Athletics (individual) memberships, view results, make donations to

their club, as well as order YES-PAR Awards (Personal Achievement Recognition) that can be personalized for their child.

YES-TF "age" groups in Oklahoma are based on the GRADE the child is/was in during the current Membership Year.  Each

Membership Year begins August 1st and ends July 31st of the following year.  The current Membership Year is 2013-2014.

The Membership Year for YES-Athletics coincides with the normal school year of most public and private schools.

Older athletes (including high school, college and adults) are always welcome to participate in local YES-Athletics meets.

This is the official Order of Events for OK YES-TF meets.  If additional events are offered at a local meet, they are done so

at the discretion of the meet host.  If additional events are offered at a local meet, the event host must list those events as

on the Order of Events to provide attending clubs with as must notice and meet information as possible.

This Order of Events was established as a result of the stated purpose of YES-Track & Field, which is to provide opportunities

for a growing number of young children to enjoy Track & Field, with the long-range goal of increasing the number of students

that participate in the sport in school (in both Junior High and High School.)  YES-Athletics has therefore adopted NHSF rules

except where amended to further the purpose of YES-Track & Field and YES-Cross Country.

However, results for events that are "Not Available" are unofficial and may not appear in the meet results.

*Modified long jump:  This event incorporates most of the skills required for Long Jump with two exceptions, which are as follows.

                   (1) a take-off board is not used;  (2) length of the runway is limited as follows:   K - 2nd grade - 30ft,   3rd grade - 50ft

                   (3) a "take-off area" may be indicted by placing tape on the runway that is at least 3 feet before the "Foul Indicator".

*Modified Long Jump:  the runway "Foul Indicator" consists of tape (or other suitable material) that is no more than ½ inch thick.

The Foul Indicator should be placed across the very end of the runway and must be no more than 6 inches from front to back.  If

a jumper touches the Foul Indicator while making an attempt, it is a foul.  Each jumper has three (3) attempts.  The Foul Indicator

must be parallel to the closest take-off board on the runway.  The Back Line of the modified runway must be marked with an orange

cone or tape (or other suitable material) which must be either 30 or 50 feet from the closest edge of the Foul Indicator, depending on

the jumper's grade.  The jump must be measured from the runway (approach) side of the Foul Indictor - to the closest mark in the

landing area (sadd) that was made by the jumper.
